VIETNAM JANUARY 2018

A trip to Vietnam was organized in January 2018 with the breeder Herbert BECKER, a leading European specialist in aquatic turtle breeding, reputed to successfully reproduce, and for several decades, many Cuora species naturally present in Vietnam.
For example, he worked in collaboration with O.N.G. Asian Turtle Program (ATP) and Cuc Phuong National Park on a breeding program of Mauremys annamensis.

To our delight, we were accompanied by the founding members of the Swiss association “Protection and Recovery of Turtles” (PRT), Jean-Marc DUCOTTERD and his daughter Charlotte, a biologist who worked on the populations of European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis) in Switzerland.

During this trip, the team of Asian Turtle Program allowed us to discover the natural habitat of Cuora galbinifrons within the Khe Go Reserve, then that of Cuora bourreti on the Bach Ma National Park. We ended this journey by visiting the breeding farms of Mauremys annamensis.
