Cuora bourreti

Cuora bourreti

Although enjoying international protection status, Cuora bourreti remains highly threatened in its natural environment.

The main causes of population decline are deforestation and poaching to feed the Chinese and national markets.

This worrisome situation makes this species a priority for the development of conservation programs.

Significant chromatic variations in Cuora bourreti have been observed and suggest that there are different populations.

Turtle Sanctuary will be conducting a population assessment study of Cuora bourreti in Vietnam very soon.
