Chitra chitra
Chitra chitra is one of the largest freshwater turtles in the world, reaching 123–140 cm in carapace length and over 200 kg.
Found in Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and Java, it inhabits three major river basins in Thailand: the Salween, Mae Klong and Chao Phraya. Its presence is confirmed in the Mae Klong and reported in the Mae Ping, although extensive modifications to the Chao Phraya River make its continued survival there uncertain.
Population assessment studies for this species will be conducted in 2026 by Turtle Sanctuary.
